Cubs reliever Jason Adam had a really bad day at work on Sunday.
Adam had thrown reasonably well over his first seven outings of 2021: 2.70 ERA, 1.200 WHIP, .174 opponents BA, 10 strikeouts in 6u2154 innings.
Sunday? Uh... not so much. Adam faced six hitters and retired none. Three of them had hits, two were walked and Adam hit the sixth. Five of them scored, making Adam’s ERA 9.45 and his WHIP 1.950. His opponents BA went up to .269. He threw 27 pitches (14 strikes).
And so, the Cubs are giving him a break from major league pitching for a while.
