It had been announced Thursday afternoon that Alec Mills would be recalled from Triple-A Iowa to start Friday’s game, and a corresponding roster move would be made at that time.
And now, we know what that move is:
Dillon Maples had been recalled Thursday when Tyler Chatwood was placed on the disabled list, but with Cole Hamels throwing a complete game, he wasn’t needed. Maples made three previous relief appearances for the Cubs this year. Two of them were good and in the other one, he got pounded.
Maples has talent and a plus fastball.
