MESA, Ariz. -- The Cubs released outfielder Shane Victorino, infielder Munenori Kawasaki and left-handed reliever Manny Parra on Tuesday. However, a team official said the Cubs were actively trying to re-sign all three.
With the moves, the Cubs' spring roster is at 32.
Victorino, 35, signed a Minor League contract with the Cubs on Feb. 26, and he has been slowed this spring by a strained right calf. Victorino had agreed to "re-create Spring Training" and rehab with the team. He was to be paid $1 million if he made the Major League club.
Kawasaki, 34, batted .
