ST. LOUIS — The Cubs still hope Neil Ramirez can be a game-changing force out of their bullpen.
The Cubs are expected to activate Ramirez from the disabled list and have him available for Sunday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, a team source said, though it’s unclear how that move impacts the rest of the roster.
Ramirez — a hard-throwing right-hander who should become another weapon for manager Joe Maddon — has been sidelined since April 15 with shoulder inflammation.
Whether or not Ramirez resurfaces as an elite setup guy, the Cubs need to strengthen their bullpen given all the questions about their rotation.
