The Cubs placed third baseman Kris Bryant on the 10-day injured list prior to Saturday’s game against the White Sox with a left ring finger sprain, retroactive to Aug. 19. The team did not make a corresponding move. Bryant’s left wrist is also still bothering him, according to the team.
The former NL MVP injured the finger and wrist making a diving-catch attempt against the Indians on Aug. 12. Bryant received an injection on Tuesday to help with the pain.
“We don’t want players to play through things to their detriment ever. We don’t want them to ever risk exacerbating an injury and turn it into something more severe,” president Theo Epstein said on Friday.
