The Cubs placed right-hander Tyler Chatwood on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 13, with a mid-back strain. Chatwood missed his scheduled start on Friday after experiencing mid-back tightness hours before the game.
Chatwood’s status improved on Saturday as he played catch and looked to be in line to start Monday vs. the Cardinals. The back tightened again on Sunday, forcing the Cubs to send him to the IL.
Chatwood, 30, is 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA in three starts with the Cubs this season.
In a corresponding move, the Cubs recalled right-handed reliever Jason Adam from alternate site South Bend.
