The Cubs announced Thursday that Taylor Davis has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa, a move that should have no consequence on the remainder of the season. They didn’t need the spot due to roster expansion, but Davis wasn’t going to see the field with three other catchers also active. As good as it is to have guys around for the experience and camaraderie, there’s the simple matter of not having much physical space when you’re carrying extra players.
The roster now stands at 34, with potential for things to expand or contract further if and when David Bote is recalled.
