Cubs Officially Add Ryan Pressly, DFA Matt Festa

The Cubs officially announced their acquisition of Ryan Pressly from the Astros in exchange for 20-year-old pitching prospect Juan Bello. Though it was not part of the team’s announcement, Houston is covering $5.5 million of Pressly’s $14 million salary in 2025. The righty will also receive a fresh no-trade clause from the Cubs and an assignment bonus to cover the tax differences between Texas and Illinois.

In a corresponding move, the Cubs designated righty Matt Festa for assignment. This isn’t at all surprising, since we theorized at the time of his acquisition from the Rangers for cash considerations that the Cubs would likely try to sneak Festa through waivers and keep him around for pitching depth.
