With no picks in the first two rounds of the draft, the Cubs finally got their chance to make a selection Friday. With the 104th pick overall, Cubs senior vice president Jason McLeod started a day’s worth of pitcher splurging by selecting right-hander Tom Hatch out of Oklahoma State.
The 6-foot-1 Hatch missed the entire 2015 season with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament (never undergoing surgery), but came back to impress in his redshirt sophomore season. The Cowboy posted a 2.16 ERA in 112 1/3 innings (16 starts), striking out 102 and walking just 28 on the season en route to being named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year.
