The list of candidates on the Cubs’ interview list for their managerial vacancy dropped by one on Sunday when Carlos Beltran confirmed to reporters before the Astros-Yankees playoff game that he had declined a request to interview with the club.
Beltran, special assistant to the Yankees, was one of six candidates the Cubs had on an active list late last week (Dodgers front office assistant Raul Ibanez also had declined by then).
Beltran, a nine-time All-Star outfielder during a 20-year playing career, also confirmed during his session with reporters Sunday that he had declined to interview with the Padres for their opening.
