Cubs launch 5 homers as Schwarber hits 1st

MESA, Ariz. -- Jake Arrieta tuned up for Opening Day by throwing five innings and Kyle Schwarber hit one of the Cubs' five homers in a 9-5 victory over the Athletics on Tuesday in front of a sellout crowd of 15,469 at Sloan Park.

Addison Russell followed Schwarber's solo shot in the first with a two-run jack -- Russell's fifth of the spring -- in the fourth. Matt Szczur, told earlier in the day that he had made the Opening Day roster for the second straight year, was a triple shy of the cycle.
