Cubs get swept behind inefficient Jake Arrieta

The league is adjusting to Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta and the reigning Cy Young winner plans to do something about it.

Arrieta needed 106 pitches to get through five innings in the Cubs’ 7-2 loss to the St Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. He only gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and he struck out six. But he walked four. While he still sports a 1.74 ERA, the walks and the elevated pitch count are something Arrieta isn’t pleased with and believes he can rectify.

“I’m never happy about it,” Arrieta said. “It’s kind of been the same approach against me the last few times out.
