CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs didn’t quite stick to the script on Saturday, but in the end they landed the second of what they hope will be the 11 postseason wins they set their sights on back in spring training.
The Cubs beat San Francisco 5-2 to seize a 2-0 lead in their NLDS matchup, and they did so thanks to an unlikely source of offense: The pitching staff. Starter Kyle Hendricks blooped a two-run single in the second inning. Travis Wood launched the third postseason homer in Cubs playoff history in the fourth, joining Rick Sutcliffe (1984 NLCS) and Kerry Wood (2003 NLCS).
