The Cubs and first-round draft pick Ed Howard have come to terms on a contract, NBC Sports Chicago has learned.
Howard, the No. 16 overall pick in this month's draft, will sign for the recommended slot value, worth $3.7455 million. The deal is pending a physical, which is scheduled for Monday. An official announcement is expected after.
The deal was first reported by The Bigs early Sunday morning.
The Cubs drafted Howard, a shortstop, out of Chicago's Mt. Carmel High School. With the minor league season likely canceled due to the coronavirus, the 18-year-old is facing unique circumstances in his first professional season, which comes on the heels of his senior season being canceled, too.
