An unnerving scene unfolded during Thursday night’s rain delay at Wrigley Field, a fan laying on the warning track in right-center, being placed on a stretcher and getting carted off through a side gate.
This occurred around 7:15 p.m., while the Cubs and Atlanta Braves waited out the storm before a makeup game. Cubs pitching coach Chris Bosio and outfielder Albert Almora Jr. walked out from the dugout and across the empty field to see what happened, joining a group of stadium personnel.
By 9:04 p.m. — or 24 minutes after first pitch — a team spokesman emailed a 60-word statement to a reporter:
“Prior to tonight’s game, a fan was injured after attempting to jump onto the field from the Wrigley Field bleachers.
