Cubs clinch best record in National League, home field advantage throughout NL playoffs
The Cubs shut out the Cardinals 5-0 on Friday afternoon. Jake Arrieta dominated the high-flying Redbirds offense, allowing just five singles and one walk while striking out 10 in seven innings.
The Cubs inched closer to one of the team’s goals. Friday was the Cubs’ 98th win of the season, the most victories in a single-season since 1945. The Cubs improved to 98-55 on the year, a season-high 43 games over .500.
Joe Maddon has repeated over the last week since his team won the NL Central Division, the Cubs have two more team goals to reach in the regular season, winning 100 games and having home field advantage in the National League.
