As the rest of the baseball world was focused on qualifying offers, the Cubs went out and claimed pitcher Ryan Cook off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.
Cook, 28, was a very good reliever for three years with the Oakland A's from 2012-14, going 13-9 with a 2.60 ERA, 1.101 WHIP and 197 strikeouts in 190.2 innings.

Cook saved 17 games in that span - including 14 in 2012 - and also gave up only nine home runs in 196 games.
