MESA, Ariz. -- The Cubs shook up their coaching staff Thursday, naming Chili Davis as the Major League hitting coach and Brian Butterfield as the third-base coach. Additionally, Andy Haines was promoted from Minor League hitting instructor to assistant hitting coach.
The remainder of manager Joe Maddon's 2018 coaching staff will be finalized at a later date, including the hiring of a new pitching coach after the Cubs elected to not exercise a club option for Chris Bosio.
Davis replaces John Mallee, who served as hitting coach for the past three seasons. Butterfield replaces Gary Jones, who has been on the staff since 2014.
