Cubs boost bullpen, trade for lefty Montgomery

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs acquired Seattle Mariners lefty Mike Montgomery on Wednesday along with Triple-A pitcher Jordan Pries for Triple-A slugger Dan Vogelbach and Double-A pitcher Paul Blackburn, according to a source familiar with the deal.

Montgomery, 27, immediately fills a need for the Cubs, as they've been lacking a lefty reliever. Montgomery has also started two games this season and 18 in his two-year career.

Lefties are hitting .164 off him in 2016. He has a 2.34 ERA in 32 games, 30 in relief.

Vogelbach was being blocked at the big league level by Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo.
