Cubs bolster rotation by trading for veteran Dan Haren

The Cubs are on the verge of acquiring veteran pitcher Dan Haren from the Miami Marlins, multiple sources confirmed, filling a big hole in the rotation during the final hours before Friday’s trade deadline.

The Cubs will give up two minor-league prospects from their Double-A affiliate – infielder Elliot Soto and pitcher Ivan Pineyro – to get a rental pitcher (pending review of all the medical records).

Haren went 7-7 with a 3.42 ERA in 21 starts for the Marlins this season. His entertaining Twitter account – @ithrow88 – makes fun of his diminishing velocity.
