The Chicago Cubs today activated outfielder Cody Bellinger from the 10-day injured list and placed right-handed pitcher Daniel Palencia on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. In corresponding moves, right-handed pitcher Keegan Thompson has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa and outfielder Alexander Canario has been optioned to Iowa.
Bellinger, 28, was batting .226 (19-for-84) with five home runs, 17 RBI, a .320 OBP and a .440 slugging percentage prior to landing on the injured list. His 17 runs batted in led the Cubs through April 23, when he suffered a right rib fracture and, entering today, are third-most among Cubs batters.
