For much of last week, rumors were swirling that the Cubs were going to trade for Astros reliever Ryan Pressly. The hold-up was Pressly’s full no-trade clause.
Now, he has apparently waived that clause (click here for the Bluesky post if you are reading via Apple News):
Pressly, who turned 36 in December, was Houston’s closer from 2020-23 and piled up 111 total saves with the Astros from 2018-24. Last year he was removed from their closer role when Houston signed Josh Hader. There were reports that Pressly wanted to be assured he would be the Cubs closer before he’d be willing to waive the no-trade clause.
