It’s officially trade season, y’all. With just five days to go before the deadline, the Cubs got a jump on the action by acquiring minor league outfielder Gilberto Celestino from the Pirates in exchange for cash considerations. The 25-year-old has spent all season with the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians, but got a little big league experience with the Twins in 2021 and ’22.
I’ll be honest, I don’t really see the plan here. Celestino is a light-hitting outfielder with decent on-base skills, but the Cubs are pretty much loaded in the outfield. Maybe it’s just a small domino in a series of moves taking place over the next few days.
