For those of you who were thinking, or hoping, the Cubs would acquire a third catcher, you have likely gotten your wish:
Bobby Wilson has been the Twins’ backup catcher since early May. He’s not much of a hitter: .178/.242/.281 in 135 at-bats. He has thrown out eight of 27 runners trying to steal this year (30 percent), so there’s that, at least.
Gimenez was at Triple-A Iowa, so he’s likely taking over the Twins’ backup catcher role from Wilson, who has also played for the Angels, Rays (not while Joe Maddon was there, though), Rangers, Tigers and Diamondbacks.
