The Cubs sent only one player to Peoria Wednesday evening who will be an everyday starter — Anthony Rizzo. Teams are supposed to send four “regulars” to away games, but that’s been loosely enforced in recent years.
Eric Sogard is making his case for being at least a platoon starter at second base this year. Sogard went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair and the Cubs defeated the Mariners 6-2. Sogard is hitting .360/.448/.520 (9-for-25) with a home run this spring.
The Mariners took a 1-0 lead off Zach Davies in the second inning on a solo homer by Taylor Trammell.
