The Cubs have had some defensive issues this season, but Wednesday evening in New York they showed off some outstanding defense to end their 1-0 win over the Mets.
Let’s begin at the end, because that’s what everyone’s going to want to talk about. The Cubs entered the bottom of the ninth with that slim one-run lead and Hector Neris again on to try to close it. Once again, friends, that did not fill me with confidence.
Neris got the first out on an easy ground ball. Then he hit Pete Alonso, and J.D. Martinez doubled him to third.
