Contreras' solo homer off Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez traveled a projected 352 feet, according to Statcast™, and came off his bat at a 45-degree launch angle. The latter is uncommonly high -- the highest launch angle on a home run in Contreras' young career, in fact, and the highest by any Cubs player since Statcast™ began tracking data in 2015.
After taking a changeup for strike one, Contreras lofted an up-and-in, 89.8-mph fastball from Gonzalez to left field with an exit velocity of 105.5 mph.
It was tied for the seventh-highest launch angle on any home run hit this year; the highest launch angle on a home run in 2017 is 47 degrees, a mark reached by Tommy Joseph, Mike Napoli and Paul Goldschmidt.
