The Blue Jays have been viewed as one of the top suitors for Cody Bellinger, but that may be changing as they just re-signed center fielder Kevin Kiermaier for one year at $10.5 million. While that doesn’t necessarily preclude them from signing Bellinger to a much larger deal, there’s a definite sense that this could be a fallback move.
Scott Boras Bob Nightengale tweeted that the Jays are still interested in the reigning Comeback Player of the Year, but that the Cubs have greater need and desire. Bellinger’s agent has been putting pressure on the Cubs through the media, both directly and through reporters, and Jed Hoyer could really use a big signing.
