CI Recap (7/20/18) – Cubs 5, Cardinals 18: Carpenter Goes Off, Lester Struggles to Open Second Half

Following a strong offensive showing Thursday night, the Chicago Cubs rolled over in game two of this weekend set with the St. Louis Cardinals. Not only did the bats fall flat against Jack Flaherty and the Cardinals pitching staff, but so did Cubs pitching.

Jon Lester kicked off his second half in forgettable fashion, allowing eight earned runs over just three innings pitched. The game got out of hand quickly in the 4th inning after the Cardinals put up seven runs in the top half of the frame. All in all, this game was one to brush aside and not take too closely to heart.
