CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs starter Jason Hammel left Wednesday night’s game with the St. Louis Cardinals after the first inning with left hamstring tightness.
Hammel pitched a 1-2-3 first inning -- striking out the last batter he faced, Jhonny Peralta -- but didn’t come out for the second inning.
Left-hander Clayton Richard, who was going to be skipped in the rotation this weekend, replaced Hammel on the mound.
