Chicago Cubs: Show Albert Almora some love; why Justin Grimm?

The Hot Stove remains relatively quiet. Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs made an interesting move at the non-tender deadline in not bringing back former closer Hector Rondon for 2018. The former closer struggled last year, but still has above-average stuff when he’s on.

Along similar lines, Chicago brought back right-hander Justin Grimm. Many believed he would be the man on the chopping block at Friday’s non-tender deadline, but it seems he’ll have another chance heading into 2018. Of course, that’s largely dependent on the team’s offseason moves – many of which will focus on the bullpen.

The club is reportedly among five finalists for Japanese two-way standout Shohei Ohtani, as well.
