It was a picture-perfect day in Mesa with hardly a cloud in the sky until the later innings and the Cubs’ bats were shining just as brightly as the Arizona sun. The home team benefited from excellent pitching as well, including an incredibly efficient three-inning performance from Zach Davies. He worked so quickly that he had to get in a few extra throws in the bullpen after being lifted.
Though the game did feature a pair of homers, one of which pushed four runs across in the box score and three in real life, the Cubs managed to manufacture tallies as well.
