The Chicago Cubs made a deal today, sending outfielder Cameron Maybin to the Mets for cash considerations.
Maybin, 34, joined the Cubs at the August 31 trade deadline last year in a deal with the Tigers for infielder Zack Short. He played 18 games for the Cubs last September, hitting .250/.304/.365. He signed a minor league deal with the Cubs as a free agent this past off-season. Maybin has not played for the major league team in 2021. He spent April at the alternative site and has split his time in May between the traveling “taxi squad” team and the Iowa Cubs.
