The Iowa Cubs calmed the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), 5-4.
Starter Cory Abbott gave up four runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings. Abbott struck out five and walked two.
The win went to Jason Adam, who got the last out of the top of the eighth and then pitched the ninth without allowing a run. Adam’s line was no runs and one hit over 1.1 innings. He struck out one and walked no one.
Shortstop Sergio Alcantara hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to get Iowa to within a run at 4-3.
