The Iowa Cubs deconsecrated the St. Paul Saints (Twins), 7-3.
Starter Cory Abbott kept the Saints from scoring for four innings and then gave up two runs in the fifth. Abbott’s final line was two runs on four hits over five innings. He struck out eight, walked three and collected his first win of 2021.
Tommy Nance, Adam Morgan and Ryan Meisinger were the other three Iowa pitchers tonight. Between the four of them, they struck out 16 Saints.
Center fielder Trayce Thompson, whom the Cubs acquired two days ago from the Diamondbacks for “cash considerations,” hit his first home run in the Cubs organization with a man on in the fifth inning.
