The Royals are proof of what can happen when you’ve got a superstar on your roster, though I’m not sure the fact that he’s homegrown is a good thing for Cubs fans. What I mean is that even if they end up getting MVP-caliber production from one of their current prospects at some point, it’s hard to see anyone in the system playing at the level of Bobby Witt Jr. The shortstop currently leads MLB with a very nice 6.9 fWAR and he leads his position in a number of offensive and defensive categories.
So while KC battles for a playoff spot, the Cubs sit in last place and have next to zero hope of being competitive this season.
