By the numbers: Cubs’ own Bash Bros. on pace for historic season

In 1988, we had the “Bash Brothers,” Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco, who combined for 74 homers, 223 RBIs and 207 runs for the AL Champion Oakland Athletics. Canseco was just 23 and McGwire was 24 and their success begat a forearm-bashing celebration and a famous poster. And of course, their success was never tarnished in any way in the ensuing decades.

Now, 28 years later in Chicago, we have “Bryzzo,” the more friendly duo of Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant, who hope to make it to the World Series just like those 1988 A’s, who, of course, lost to Kirk Gibson and the Dodgers in the World Series.
