By the numbers: Cubs get a much-needed win by doing enough of the little things

The Cubs managed to come back after a pair of solo homers put them in an early hole. Despite pushing up a high pitch count, Jon Lester was able to deliver six strong innings and the Cubs did enough to climb past the San Diego Padres in Monday night’s 3-2 victory.

2: That’s how many wins the Cubs have in a row. It’s not that significant of an accomplishment, but it had been a stretch of 10 games since the Cubs had managed to string together at least two wins. That matches their worst stretch from last season, a 1-9 skid in early July.
