At this point, I don’t think the Cubs have any choice but to place Adbert Alzolay on the injured list, don’t really care what sort of injury he has — heck, is a “mental break” enough? Because the team cannot continue to throw Alzolay out there in close games. He can’t locate his slider and his mechanics seem all messed up.
That’s five blown saves in eight opportunities for Alzolay already this year (two more blown saves than he had all of 2023), and that cannot continue. He got hit hard in the eighth inning of a 3-1 loss to the Brewers on an absolutely gorgeous spring day at Wrigley Field, ruining an excellent start from Hayden Wesneski.
