Justin Steele went on the injured list earlier this week with an elbow injury. He opted to get a second opinion, which usually indicates the first diagnosis wasn’t encouraging. Unfortunately, the second doctor didn’t have better news. Steele will undergo season-ending surgery on his elbow, although the exact type of procedure is still unknown. This is the same injury he dealt with near the end of 2024, although it now appears to be more serious.

Steele is off to a rough start in 2025, posting a 4.76 ERA over four starts. The Cubs will now need to find a replacement for one of their best starting pitchers, with their depth already taking a significant hit.
