MILWAUKEE -- Javier Baez pulled another magic trick out of his hat in the second inning against the Brewers on Thursday night.
The Cubs' second baseman had hit a two-run single with one out in the second against the Brewers, and Jon Lester then hit a ball up the middle. Second baseman Hernan Perez overran it for one error, and center fielder Lorenzo Cain then scooped up the ball and threw home but his throw pulled catcher Jett Bandy off the plate.
Baez slid safely home and the Cubs took a 3-0 lead at Miller Park in the opener of a four-game series.
