Third baseman Yoan Moncada was held out of the White Sox’ starting lineup for the third consecutive game Friday because of back tightness.
Moncada, a 24-year-old switch hitter, might return Saturday or Sunday against the Yankees.
‘‘I hope so,’’ manager Rick Renteria said before the game. ‘‘We’ll do some more work [during batting practice], and we’ll evaluate him at the end of the day and see where he’s at.’’
Moncada left the Sox’ game Monday against the Nationals because of the injury and hasn’t played since. He is hitting .295 with 12 home runs, 39 RBI and five stolen bases in 63 games.
