At long last, a hit for Lester

Lester smacked an 0-2 pitch off -- literally -- Lackey, his former Red Sox teammate, with the ball deflecting off Lackey and toward shortstop. Lester ran to first, sporting a sheepish smile, and the Cubs got the ball so he can have the souvenir.

Lester, who is pitching in the National League for the first time in his career, also was unable to connect in the postseason, and was 0-for-5 in the playoffs, so he now is 1-for-72.

This wasn't the first time Lester has been on the bases, as he does have one walk in his career (2010).
