For the last several seasons, Hall of Famer Andre Dawson has worked for the Marlins organization as a special assistant in baseball operations.
When Derek Jeter’s group bought the Marlins, they clumsily fired Dawson and several other longtime front-office assistants including Hall of Famer Tony Perez and “Mr. Marlin” Jeff Conine, only to rescind those firings shortly after. Late in October, Perez and Dawson decided to leave the Marlins.
Monday, we got some good news about the former Cub star:
The Miami #Marlins loss is the Chicago #Cubs gain as #HOF Andre Dawson, one of classiest men in #MLB, about to officially rejoin organization
— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) November 20, 2017
Nightengale is certainly correct about Dawson’s class, always shown on and off the field.
