When the Cubs signed veteran outfielder Jon Jay, the idea was that he would bond with Albert Almora Jr., the team’s center fielder of the present and the future.
The pair already knew each other from offseason workouts in Miami and Jay, who turned 32 in March, was happy to play mentor to the 20-something Almora.
Fast forward about six months and now Jay is tutoring Almora on the art of staying ready off the bench.
Life in the big leagues will change your plans in a minute.
The Almora-Jay tag team in center field hasn’t worked out as advertised.
