All set? What the last 48 hours has told us about Cubs pitching

The last time we saw Mike Montgomery on a pitching mound, he was running off it and into a World Series victory mob at Progressive Field. It was then, after that final, glorious, bending curveball to Michael Martinez that clinched the Cubs the win that I believe Cubs brass were planning handing him the ball to be the fifth starter in 2017. No questions asked.

In the last 48 hours, I think we’ve seen that Montgomery is a shoe-in, while Jake Arrieta may be closer to saying his goodbyes.
