Before we begin, I would like to send out a quick PSA to all you homeowners out there. If you’re going to do any projects around your house that require a permit from the county, GET THE PERMIT. Back in 2012 we converted an enclosed porch into a heated laundry room. We hired the contractors and got all the work done without issue. Now, four years later we are in the process of selling the house and the buyer’s loan appraisal is contingent on use permitting the space we renovated. Simple enough, right? Wrong. After a trip to the county permit office we were told that because we did not follow proper protocol before doing the work, we would need a notarized letter from a licensed electrician, HVAC tech, plumber and general contractor that the work was done up to code.
