Major League Baseball is reportedly looking into allegations of domestic abuse against Cubs shortstop Addison Russell, whose wife, Melisa, alleged infidelity on Instagram Wednesday night. Russell was not at Wrigley Field for Thursday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.
A friend of Melisa Russell alleged in an Instagram comment that Russell “mentally and physically” abused his wife and “hit her in front of Aiden and Mila,” Russell’s son with Melisa and his daughter through another woman. The friend’s Instagram account has been wiped.
On Thursday afternoon, Russell issued a statement: “Any allegation that I have abused my wife is false and hurtful.
