The Cubs have had enough trouble developing pitchers without injuries mucking things up, so there was a sense of dread when the injury bug bit Adbert Alzolay again Wednesday night in Iowa. He’s already missed time over the last two seasons with ankle, lat, and side issues, and this latest setback came just 2.2 innings into his start.
Alzolay’s velocity was down noticeably and he was incredibly wild, walking five batters, prior to signalling for manager Marty Pevey to check him out. The righty then left the game, raising fears that those plans the Cubs had for him might have gone awry.
