Word first came out last week that Adbert Alzolay would require surgery on his right arm, but no specifics were shared because the reliever was seeking a second opinion. As I had theorized at the time, it sounded like a matter of determining whether to undergo full UCL reconstruction or the newer internal brace procedure that typically requires less rehab time. As Craig Counsell shared with media members Wednesday, it sounds as though Alzolay will need the former.
This is a big blow and could mean the former closer will miss the entire 2025 season as he works back from the procedure.
